If these are considered secrets, I have a lot more than six. In fact, I might have one for every minute of every day of the year, because I'm so weird. No, really. I have the strangest tendencies. Not in a bad way, though. It's kind of exciting, not knowing what you're going to say or do next. Do you ever just say the strangest sentence just because you know you're the only one who's ever said it? I do. It's quite entertaining, trying to trump the one you said before. You have to say it out loud though, otherwise it's not the same. Anyway, my randomness grows on most people. I'm much too spontaneous for me own good, and I'm not huge on logic and reason. Quite frankley, I don't have time for it. And yet I married Joey Byington! Who'da thunk? However, I take pride in the fact that I did not get married because it was the rational thing to do. If it was, I'm not sure it would have turned out the same.
1. My first boyfriend was black. It's true. We were six and his name was Michael, and he lived in the apartment diagonal from the one my mom and I lived in. He was a bit scrawny for my taste, but my pre-pubescent expectations were possibly a little high. He could have been the little brother of Will Smith, pre-Independence Day. We would eat ice cream and brownies under the covered parking stalls and chase each other around at the park. He and his cousin were once throwing rocks around and shattered our sliding glass door when we were gone. He had to come over and apoligize to my mom. Sometimes he would compliment me on my hair (think Saydi, but with an overbite and not nearly as graceful), but most of the time, he would make fun of me because I was a girl. Fifteen years later, men don't change. And it has nothing to do with race.
2. Three weeks ago, I may or may not have tried to convince Joey that it was time to have a baby. Or at least "go off the pill and just see what happens". Which counts as attempting to concieve, regardless of what anyone says. I know this counts as a secret. In fact, I'm not sure Joey had any idea that's what I was getting at. As a disclaimer, I had just heard sister Beck's talk on how young couples need not and should not wait to have children. The problem lies directcly in my obsession with pre-natal development. For about a day and a half of my freshman year at BYU, I wanted to be an OBGYN. This, like my dream of completing the Iron Man, was a humerous notion I look back on with a knowing smile. It's just not God's plan. Anyway, no, we're not pregnant, and no, we're not trying to get pregnant. I'm an avid pill-popper. Much to my chagrin. In case anyone was wondering.
3. I cry at least once a day. It's really not a big deal, I'm just really emotional! Have you ever seen the Sarah McLaughlin commercial where "In The Arms of The Angels" plays in the background, and it shows all these dogs and cats that have been abused and are in these filthy little cages? They look so sad, so unloved, but they're not because I love them! (Which is why we vowed never to buy a dog from a breeder or a pet store. Our animals, when we get them, will be adopted out of shelters or from people that don't want them. Joey says we can have a puppy farm if we ever have some land). Those commercials KILL me. It's horrible. Or what about the ones with all the starving children in third world countries? My heart goes out to them... and everyone else. Which is a problem. It's hard on the soul. Compassion is the life of me and will undoubtedly be the death of me, too.
4. I have really strange cravings, and even weirder eating habits. For breakfast this morning, I had a homemade chocolate chip cookie, two slices of baby swiss cheese, a bite of sushi, and some lemonade from concentrate. Disgusting, I know. But I'm an intuitve eater. I took a class on it at BYU that changed my life. Whatever comes to mind, I just eat it. It's all about learning how to read your body Along with that, I'm a water snob. Not only will I not drink from the tap, but I'll only drink a few brands of water, including Disani, Aquafina, Fiji, and Evian, or distilled from the gallon. I also don't drink juice from concentrate. I don't mean to be high maintanence. But other waters taste funny, like they have metal in them or something. It's almost like I can taste the effects of global warming. I don't eat much, though, so our food bill isn't too out of control.
5. I almost fainted on my wedding day. True story. With the stress of everything combined with the lack of nourishment, and the fact that I just GOT MARRIED, it almost put me over the edge before we got to the luncheon. I'm glad I didn't though. Our photographer would have loved it. Also, I burst into tears when Joey and I got into the car to leave our reception. Not little tiny tears of joy, I mean pure hysteria. I was shaking, I almost threw up, and my contacts fell out because I was crying so hard. It really freaked out my husband. He was just quiet. Five minutes later, I was totally fine.
6. Every time we see a homeless person on the side of the road, I always say a prayer for them. This happened much more in Vegas than it does where we live now. Which is why I believe in socialized healthcare.
These are some things about the B-rit.
